PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Sacramento, Denver Win Tight Matches

It was a week where there wasn’t a whole lot left on the line, as the league’s title fight is already set for next weekend, but PRO Rugby’s teams didn’t need any extra incentive in order to put on the most exciting weekend of matches to date. The results of both matches this week were up in the air with less than ten minutes remaining, a nice change of pace in a league where matches have been decided by halftime with increasing regularity.

PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Stampede Secures Title Shot, Breakers Slump Continues

The first season of PRO Rugby is firmly in its final stretch now. Week 16’s championship clash between the Ohio Aviators and Denver Stampede is on the horizon but before that we have two weeks of what ultimately amounts to exhibition play. Ohio’s two consecutive bye weeks means that Denver is the only team in play that still has a shot at the title and the only thing on the line for them is the number of standings points they will have heading into week 16. While Denver works on…

PRO Rugby Players on International Duty

Seventeen PRO Rugby players have been called up to three different national teams for the June test window. The USA Eagles account for eleven of those players, a number that may be a bit lighter than many had expected. They are sending six players to the national team assembly along with coach Mike Friday, who will serve as the Eagles’ attack coach. The influx of sevens players means that…

PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Week 3

It’s the mid-point of what you could consider “phase one” of the season: a five week period where each team is taking on the other for the first time, giving everyone a chance to see how they measure up to the opposition before heading into the next set of matches against each team. This weekend gave us two matches that were entertaining in very different ways. In Ohio, we saw a team firing on all cylinders and putting on a clinical performance. In San Diego, we saw a clash of…

Latest PRO Rugby Roster Updates and Rumors

The supposed day of PRO Rugby’s roster announcement has come, but there was no announcement to be found. Outside of sharing a story from The Guardian, the league’s Facebook page was peculiarly silent compared to the flurry of announcements last week. I can think of a number of reasons for a possible delay, as things get messy when you are dealing with around 150 different contracts. It was mentioned in the comments yesterday that the league will be re-launching their website shortly; perhaps the rosters will come with that re-launch….

Roster Day Eve: What We Know So Far About PRO Rugby’s Players

According to a reply from PRO Rugby on their Facebook page, the rosters for the five teams will be unveiled tomorrow. They have managed to play this close to the vest so far, only beginning to release a few of the bigger names in the past week, but a smattering of reports and social media posts have revealed the makeup of about a fifth of the league’s inaugural roster. Here is a compilation of those connections sorted by team, with some additional details about the players.
