PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Sacramento, Denver Win Tight Matches

It was a week where there wasn’t a whole lot left on the line, as the league’s title fight is already set for next weekend, but PRO Rugby’s teams didn’t need any extra incentive in order to put on the most exciting weekend of matches to date. The results of both matches this week were up in the air with less than ten minutes remaining, a nice change of pace in a league where matches have been decided by halftime with increasing regularity.

PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Week 10

This week’s matches include two results that are upsets if you’re going by the standings but aren’t completely out of left field to anyone paying close attention to the form of these teams. On Saturday, San Francisco, whose improvement finally bore fruit with their win against Ohio in week 7, faced a San Diego team that has slipped over the past few weeks. On Sunday, a white hot Ohio squad went head to head with a Denver team that has come very close to losing their unblemished record in their…

PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Aviators Continue to Crush It in Obetz

This past weekend’s match was the first of a three week stretch where teams will find themselves short-handed due to the international break. San Diego was clearly hit harder by their losses, while Ohio saw a few reinforcements come in and put in huge performances. Meanwhile in international play, the USA Eagles are still in camp but PRO Rugby players have already made an impact for Canada and Tonga.

PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Week 7

This week was a telling one for the California PRO Rugby teams as the league enters the international “break”. Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco all continued in the direction that their momentum was carrying them, for better or worse. San Francisco secured a breakthrough victory, Sacramento’s slip has finally shown in the standings, and San Diego proved that they are still the top challenger to the front-runner Denver.

PRO Rugby Players on International Duty

Seventeen PRO Rugby players have been called up to three different national teams for the June test window. The USA Eagles account for eleven of those players, a number that may be a bit lighter than many had expected. One part of the equation that was not always so certain was the level of cooperation of the national sevens program. They are sending six players to the national team assembly along with coach Mike Friday, who will serve as the Eagles’ attack coach. The influx of sevens players means that…

Evaluating PRO Rugby Through The First Round-Robin

The first five weeks of PRO Rugby are in the books and each team has faced one another thanks to some tidy scheduling. The schedule doesn’t stay so even for the remainder of the season as the league tiptoes around the June international window, but one time through is enough to give us a basic idea of where each team stands.

PRO Rugby Weekend Review: Week 3

It’s the mid-point of what you could consider “phase one” of the season: a five week period where each team is taking on the other for the first time, giving everyone a chance to see how they measure up to the opposition before heading into the next set of matches against each team. This weekend gave us two matches that were entertaining in very different ways. In Ohio, we saw a team firing on all cylinders and putting on a clinical performance. In San Diego, we saw a clash of…
